The truth about chicken parmigiana


Hello everyone!!

I want to tell you a secret today… (I’ll write in English for the sake of all of you understanding!)

 

Chicken parmigiana is NOT an Italian meal. I’ve never eaten it, I’ve never seen it in Italy and I’ve never even imagined it!!!

I don’t know where it all started, I mean the legend about chicken parmigiana being Italian, and honestly I don’t even want to know! But the thing which is pretty annoying is that you will find it in every “Italian” restaurant abroad and it makes it even worse because it makes you think that the recipe is Italian. I’m probably stressing it too much, but I just want to let you know that if you go to a restaurant and order a chicken parmigiana thinking that you are eating Italian food, well… you are wrong. The same goes for spaghetti with meatballs, I’ve only seen it in a Disney movie. Who would ever eat spaghetti and meatballs in the same dish?!

The one and only Italian parmigiana is made with eggplants (which make the dish vegetarian!)!!!

The video is entirely in Italian, so I’ll try to sum it up in a few words in English. Often – I’d say too often – the “Italian” food you eat abroad is not Italian food. Simple recipes with genuine and few ingredients are totally changed and it gives you a completely wrong idea about the food we eat here in Italy. If you eat at a restaurant in Italy, you’ll see that the food is completely different!

  1. Ho trovato interesante la sua informazione sul “spaghetti with meatballs”. La mia nonna non ha fatto “meatballs” con pasta. Quando ho incontrato i amici con questa habitudine, ho pensato che la mia nona ha sbagliato la ricetta! Recentamente, il mio marito mi ha domandato, “what did Italians use to make spaghetti sauce before tomatoes?”. Ho cercato un libro dei recitte italiani “Italian Immigrant Cooking” da Elodia Rigante. Anche qui, non c’era una ricetta per ” spaghetti with meatballs” ma era informazione interessante sul sogetto di pomidori. Elodia Rigante ha detto che nella passato il italiani hanno usato i caroti o zucca per fare una salsa. La ricetta da Sig.ra Rigante era chiamato, “Pasta in Carrot Sauce with Sausage”. E una salsa con caroti, cipoli, aglio, peperoni rossi, origano, bascilico, vino rosso, sale e salsicce. E questa una ricetta italiana? Sandy Hack

      sì, il sugo con la salsiccia si fa ed è molto buono. Anche il ragù è molto popolare ed è il sugo con il macinato di carne. La pasta con le polpette non è una ricetta italiana, ma un’invenzione estera che viene attribuita alla cucina italiana, ma ripeto, non è così!
