St. Valentine’s Day ♥ San Valentino

Love is in the air! ♥

I thought I would tell you some love-related vocabulary, what do you think about that?

First of all, I would like to write an intro to this post telling something about the history of Valentine’s Day. Who was St. Valentine? Not much is known about him, the only thing we know about him is that he died on the 14th of February in Rome (on Via Flaminia, in the northern part of the city). He is a widely recognized Roman saint and many churches dedicated to him are to be found in the city of Rome.

The legend says that Saint Valentine was imprisoned because he performed weddings for people who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who at that time were persecuted (under the Roman Empire).

The 14th of February has always been associated with love, from the high Middle Ages to our days, where this celebration has become highly commercial.
