Reading series #1: The Ugly Duckling – Il Brutto Anatroccolo (part II)

Hello! Welcome back to PART II of the story!

Il giorno dopo Mamma Anatra porta gli anatroccoli al laghetto.

The next day Mother Duck takes the ducklings to the lake.

Tutti si tuffano nell’acqua.

They all jump in the water.

Uno, due, tre, quattro, cinque, sei piccoli anatroccoli e… uno grande e brutto. SPLASH!

One, two, three, four, five, six little ducklings and… one big ugly one. SPLASH!

-Non vogliamo mangiare con lui, non ci piace- dicono gli anatroccoli. Il Brutto Anatroccolo è molto triste.

-We don’t want to play with him, we don’t like him- say the little ducklings. The Ugly Duckling is very sad.

Scappa via attraverso i campi. Quando arriva la notte è molto stanco e si ferma vicino all’acqua per riposare.

He runs away through fields. When night comes he is very tired and he stops near the water to rest.

Al mattino arrivano due anatre selvatiche. – Chi sei? Da dove vieni? Perché sei qui? – gli chiedono.

In the morning two wild ducks arrive. – Who are you? Where are you from? Why are you here? – the ask him.

-Vattene, -esclamano- sei proprio brutto! Si siede vicino a dei cespugli. Arrivano dei cacciatori con i cani. Uno di loro lo annusa.

-Go away, -they say- you are very ugly! He sits down near some bushes. Some hunters arrive with their dogs. One of them sniffs him.

Stay tuned for part III!
